The fact that it is now pisses me off every time I log in. I've been playing mmo's for years, including ffxi which housed its servers in japan, never has it been required of me to use a vpn in order to play a game. But still a very annoying thing to deal with. Utilizing a VPN to a different location (oddly enough Toronto works best for me, I'm in Buffalo, NY), I can limit these dropped packets to once every 20-30 minutes, making the game playable at the very least. Because of some argument beyond us as customers (something to do with Time Warner/Verizon/Level 3 and SE), our traffic gets routed poorly, I for one get dropped packets at least once ever 5-10 minutes, freezing up my game entirely and making it unplayable. If for instance you drop alot of packets to the east coast server despite being closer to it, you might have better luck connecting to a central server, at the very least you have the option to try it.Įnter FFXIV, where the connection is not in fact clean and we have no choice different servers. Obviously est is the best choice provided the connection is clean. I'm in the northeast, an est server might give me 50ms ping, central 75ms and pst 150ms. This allows people to pick the server that works best for them giving them a solid connection. Most large mmo's have separate locations for their servers, in most instances east coast/west coast and possibly a central server. They give you a little amount to try out their service. With Mudfish, pings were about the same, 25-35.Īnd if all this doesnt convince you, all you have to do is create an account and download the application. With WTFast, pings were down to about 20-30 with no packet loss. I lose about half my packets during prime time basically making the game unplayable. The problem is the amount of packet loss I encounter. I'm in NY with verizon FIOs and ping is fine. WTFast would kick me off occasionally and I'd have to watch the ads and 1-2 minute wait time to reconnect back. Between WTFast and Mudfish, you dont get the whole fancy stats like WTFast and more simplistic in terms of the GUI.Īs for the actual quality of service, I noticed no difference in ping between WTFast and Mudfish with no dropped connections.

I've just recently started using it after WTFast announced they were ending the free accounts. The $3 basically lasts you several years. Using WTFast's stats, I was using about 65-80 MB for being active ingame for 8 hours farming anima weapon drops. So for $3, you're basically set for 25GB worth of data. Their data rates are 135 Korean Won per 1GB which is about $0.12 USD. It actually comes out to be way less than most VPNs. The one thing these guys are different than all the well known ones is that they are a pay as you go kinda deal rather than a monthly sub. This will display as: Hildibrand is my hero.
